Cybersecurity is for everyone - it impacts us all and plays a vital role in protecting our personal data, businesses, and critical infrastructure. From the apps we use to the financial systems we rely on, cybersecurity touches nearly every aspect of daily life.
Yet with over 800,000 cybersecurity job openings in the US, and counting, we face a severe shortage of skilled professionals to protect our digital infrastructure. This shortage not only threatens national safety but also restricts the country’s ability to lead in innovation and technological advancements.

Step Into the Cyber Workforce!

Step Into the Cyber Workforce! is a 3-year initiative from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) designed to close this workforce gap and help students pursue rewarding careers in cybersecurity.
Our program equips high school students with the skills, knowledge, and real-world experience they need to succeed in high-demand cybersecurity careers. By offering comprehensive training for educators and fostering hands-on learning through game-based activities and industry engagement, we are preparing the next generation of cyber professionals to thrive in one of the fastest-growing, most essential fields today.

Our Unique Approach

High-Quality Professional Development

We provide comprehensive training for educators, empowering them to be up to date with the latest technology, lead cybersecurity courses and shape the future workforce. Our workshops equip teachers to seamlessly integrate cybersecurity into their STEM curricula, ensuring students gain essential skills.

Game-Based Learning

Students engage in hands-on, interactive experiences using platforms like Minecraft, Sandbox environments and other game-based tools. This approach makes cybersecurity approachable and relevant, especially for those with limited computer science backgrounds. By breaking down barriers, we help students overcome stigmas often associated with tech fields.

Industry Engagement

Through partnerships with government, the Navy and tech leaders like Microsoft, the program offers career-connected learning opportunities. Students participate in workshops and an the opportunity to prepare for and take free Microsoft Certification exams, gaining real-world skills and a clear path to apprenticeships and ultimately, cybersecurity careers.
